A polished concrete slab and a wet underfloor heating system transformed the existing ground floor into a warm and spacious living space. Triple glazed vertical ‘slot’ windows and a triple glazed ‘slimline’ sliding door created a visual connection with the surrounding landscape. A fixed, triple glazed roof window above the dining area maximized the penetration of natural light. The addition of a ground floor kitchen and dining area established a hierarchy from entertainment spaces to a secluded ‘snug’. Removal of the existing layers of plaster work to expose the original stonework allowed the external walls to breathe and shed excess moisture. Returning the property back to its natural state was fundamental to leverage improvements to the energy efficiency of the property.
